The Mercury 13 paved the way for women in NASA- testing in secret. It must have been lonely and isolating for these pioneers in the early 60’s! These women qualified for the space program, passing all the physical test as men, but were denied based on gender. In 1983, Sally Ride, finally became the first American women in space.
